Planning a Wedding Can Feel Overwhelming

Sometimes, wedding planning can feel like it is “larger than life.” You can be come overwhelmed, emotional, and stressed by the details you need to plan and the decisions you need to make.  It’s a pretty daunting task. Before, you blow up, fall apart or find yourself in the emergency room, try to remember there are some priorities that will always be more important than planning a perfect wedding planning.

1. Your Relationship with Your Fiancé is More Important Than a Perfect Wedding

If you find that you want to scream at your fiancé over something like the guest list, step back and have a calm, respectful discussion that doesn’t bring harm to your relationship. Better yet, take a break from it all. Go out on a date and remind yourselves why you got engaged in the first place.

2. Your Health Should Take Priority Over a Perfect Wedding

Good health is one of those things you simply can’t buy.  So, don’t let stress over something like your wedding budget steal your good health.  If you find that you are losing sleep, hair or peace of mind over your wedding planning, take a brief sabbatical and take care of you. Make those doctor appointments you neglected to make. Spend the weekend with your loved ones. Take a long nap.

3. Your Relationship With Your Family Should Not Be Impacted by Your Desire for a Perfect Wedding Day

Did you have a big argument with your mom over a family tradition. Let her have her way. I can assure you there is no tradition so important that it should come between you and your family.  And, more than likely, it won’t matter to you in 10 or 20 years.

4. Do Not Allow Your Desire For a Perfect Wedding Impact Your Credit Rating

You still have to live a life long after your special day, so try to prioritize what you want by determining your “must haves” vs. your “nice to haves.” Of course, all of the “options” are nice to have, but they are typically far from necessary. So, spend wisely.

And, remember what is most important in the long run.
