Is There a “Proper Way” to hold your Champagne Flute

Did you know there was a “proper way” to hold your champagne flute? How about your wine glass?  Sounds a little “hoity-toity,” right?  Well, of course it does, but there is a rationale behind this rule!

How Should You Pick Up a Champagne Flute or Wine Glass?

When you hold a champagne flute or a wine glass, you should pick it up by pinching the stem at the base of the bowl (between your thumb and your index finger).

Avoid Changing the Temperature of Your Champagne or Wine

Champagne and sparkling wine tastes best when it is served chilled.  If you hold the champagne flute by the “bowl” of the glass, the warmth of your hands could warm up the glass.  That, of course, will change the temperature of your wine or your champagne.  And, as one of my previous brides once said, warm wine tastes like warm butter.  (blech!)

Cheers!  Happy New Year!
