The Metropolitan AME Church founded “The Family Room” Speaker Series

The professional meeting planning firm, Howerton+Wooten Events, successfully planned the speaker series program called “The Family Room.” This time, the program featured Nikole Hannah-Jones. Howerton+Wooten’s involvement included planning the logistics and the housing for the event. The members of the Metropolitan AME Church, created this speaker services, featuring Nicole Hannah-Jones.

During this important event, the keynote speaker, Nicole Hannah-Jones, discussed the “1619 Project,” and its importance to our community history. “The 1619 Project” is a major initiative from The New York Times. It observes the 400th anniversary of the beginning of American slavery. “The 1619 Project” aims to reframe the country’s history, understanding that 1619 as our true founding. It places the consequences of slavery and the contributions of black Americans at the very center of the story we tell ourselves about who we are.
