Washington, DC (November 15, 2019) — The meeting planning firm, Howerton+Wooten Events, which is based in the Washington DC metropolitan area, successfully managed the logistics of the speaker series program for the Metropolitan AME Church called “The Family Room.”  The event, which took place on Thursday, November 14th, featured a conversation with Nikole Hannah-Jones. Ms. Hannah-Jones discussed the “1619 Project.” The 1619 Project is a major initiative from The New York Times observing the 400th anniversary of the beginning of American slavery. It aims to reframe the country’s history, understanding 1619 as our true founding, and placing the consequences of slavery and the contributions of black Americans at the very center of the story we tell ourselves about who we are.

Nikole Hannah-Jones is an award-winning investigative reporter who covers civil rights and racial injustice for The New York Times Magazine.
