A Modern Vow Renewal at the Gaylord National Resort
As a professional wedding planner and a hopeless romantic, I consider it a massive honor to plan vow renewals. There is something incredibly sacred about love that has endured, evolved, and deepened over decades. My entire team and I felt this profoundly while planning Sandra and Melvin’s wedding vow renewal. Their modern vow renewal took place at the Gaylord National Resort in National Harbor, Maryland.
Sandra and Melvin celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary surrounded by family, intention, and undeniable love. From our very first conversation, their gratitude for life together radiated. They were still in love, and they wanted their vow renewal to reflect their journey and their shared story.
A Family-Centered Ceremony Filled with Meaning
Family stood at the heart of this modern vow renewal. Their daughters officiated the ceremony, a deeply personal and moving choice. Sandra’s two grandsons escorted her down the aisle, creating one of the most tender moments of the day. As they processed, the DC String Machine from Lucy Black Entertainment filled the Lower Atrium of the Gaylord National Resort with elegant live music that set a romantic and reverent tone.
The ceremony took place in the breathtaking Lower Atrium of the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center. This atrium is a sought-after location for weddings and vow renewals in Maryland. We designed a modern floral backdrop featuring creamy calla lilies and the couple’s custom wedding monogram. Their monogram was an elegant focal point that honored both legacy and style.
Designing a Love Story from Start to Finish
Sandra and Melvin spoke beautifully about their “story,” so we designed their vow renewal as a love story unfolding in chapters. Guests experienced this theme through custom aisle runner text, personalized cocktail napkins, and bar details. During cocktail hour, guests received keepsake “story books” that shared the couple’s love story, dinner menu, and reception floor plan. We displayed these books on shelves graciously provided by the Gaylord National team, adding warmth and charm to the experience.
A Modern Reception at the Gaylord National Resort
The reception took place in the Eastern Shore Ballroom and featured a modern palette of black, ivory, green, and gold accents. Jumbo calla lilies, lush green florals, candlelight, and elegant oatmeal drapery, provided by the talented team at The Lightsource Company, created a refined yet inviting atmosphere.
After dinner, guests danced the night away to an incredible live band from Lucy Black Entertainment. Throughout the evening, guests also enjoyed a fun portrait studio designed by our professional wedding planning team.
