Are you planning your wedding and struggling to pick the perfect color palette? Use the 60/30/10 rule. It’s a simple, yet powerful design principle used by wedding planners and designers to create a cohesive and visually stunning wedding aesthetic.
✔️ You will select three (3) colors and balance them out by determing which color you want to be the primary, then the secondary color, and then the accent color.
✔️ Your dominant color is your foundation color. This is your favorite color and it should be used for large surfaces like the drapery, table linen or flowers. This should be 60% of your wedding day color palette.
✔️ Your complementary color (or the second favorite color) adds visual interest and should complement the dominant color. It should be 30%. The purpose of this color is to “ground” the dominant wedding day color palette, or give the overall design a little texture or help to make it feel layered.
✔️ Your accent color should be 10%. This color could be a metal, such as a gold, silver, platinum, copper or rose gold.
So, whether you’re planning a luxury wedding, a modern celebration, or a rustic chic event, this rule will guide you in selecting a color scheme that reflects your vision and style.
